Random Thoughts on the Days of Raising Kids…

Mornings start with a thank you. Those sunrises are incredible, God! It’s like a daily reminder of the beauty that surrounds us, even when we’re rushing to get out the door. Speaking of rushing, where does the time go? Seems like just yesterday the kids were little, and now…well, let’s just say laundry is a permanent fixture in my life.

Speaking of laundry, have you ever noticed how some things just never seem to end? Dishes pile up as fast as you clean them, and don’t even get me started on the neverending cycle of folding clothes (whoo hoo?). But hey, at least it means there’s food on the table and healthy kids to make the mess!

Speaking of kids, isn’t it amazing how curious they are? Birds chirping outside? Mystery solved – it’s a government drone (according to my five-year-old, at least). Turtles with long necks and funky colored skin? That sparks a whole new round of “mommy, why?” questions. Bless their little hearts, they keep us on our toes!

Sometimes, though, I see people struggling with just one or two kids, and I confess, it makes me wonder. Maybe I’m just used to the chaos, but isn’t the joy worth it? On the flip side, there are days when a beach getaway sounds heavenly. Sunshine, sandcastles, and a pool (because who wants to be stuck at the beach without a pool, right?). Then reality sets in – swimsuit season isn’t exactly my favorite, and finding a decent hotel these days feels like a mission in itself.

But amidst the daily grind, there are these moments of pure gratitude. A kind word from my husband, a silly laugh from my kids, the simple act of making a cup of coffee – these small things add up to a life overflowing with blessings. Sure, there are frustrations and challenges, but man, am I lucky!

So, here’s to the sunrises and the sunsets, the endless laundry, and the neverending questions. Here’s to the beautiful chaos of motherhood, and the amazing people who make it all worthwhile.

Conquering the Hard Days

Let’s be honest, even the most grateful moms have rough days. Meltdowns in the grocery store, endless tantrums, feeling like you’re losing your mind – we’ve all been there. Here are a few things that have helped me navigate the tough times:

  • Lower Your Expectations: Sometimes we build these elaborate schedules and perfect daydreams in our heads, and reality throws a bucket of mashed banana at them. Roll with the punches, mama. A messy playdate or a skipped nap won’t scar your child for life (and might even make a hilarious story later).

  • Self-Care Isn’t Selfish: A drained mama is no good to anyone. Take a hot shower, read a chapter of your book, sneak in a nap when you can. Even a small break can recharge your batteries and make you a more patient parent.

  • Ask for Help: There’s no shame in admitting you need a break. Reach out to your partner, family, or friends. Let them take the kids for an afternoon so you can recharge.

  • Find Your Village: Connect with other parents! Join a playgroup, online forums, or simply chat with moms at the park. Knowing you’re not alone in the trenches can be a lifesaver.

  • Remember, This is a Season: These challenging days won’t last forever. The cuddles, the giggles, the “I love you, mommy”s – those will stay with you long after the tantrums fade.

So, to all the parents out there, especially those in the thick of it – you’re doing a great job! Keep reminding yourself of the good stuff, ask for help when you need it, and embrace the beautiful chaos. We’re all in this together, and together, we can make it through the hard days.
